A MEMU train mishap narrowly escaped accident near Nilgiri Road Railway Station in Balasore district on Tuesday after an alert loco pilot applied brakes finding 'fault' on track.

According to reports, Bhadrak-Balasore MEMU train mistakenly entered a loop line track, where maintenance work was underway. Thanks to the vigilant loco pilot, who detected an error in the track's endpoint and reacted swiftly by applying emergency brake preventing a mishap. He reversed the train towards Balasore. After over an hour long halt, the train resumed its service.

“The train was traveling at a speed of 7-8 kmph, and the track had been set in the opposite direction due to ongoing construction work. The switch could have malfunctioned. While a derailment was unlikely, the tracks would have sustained damage," the loco pilot stated after the incident.
