Post Ujjwala scam: Odisha beneficiaries to avail LPG connection at Jan Seva Kendras

Kendrapara: Taking initiative following massive Ujjwala scam reported from Kendrapara district, Centre decided to make avail the cooking gas under the scheme at Jan Seva Kendra (Common Service Centre) to the beneficiaries.

The pilot project started from Rajnagar in the district where the cooking gas connection under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is available at 10 Jan Seva Kendras of 10 panchayats from Sunday.

The LPG connection will be available to the beneficiaries at all the common service centres across Odisha in phases.

As per decision by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the Jan Seva Kendra will be transformed into LPG consumer point for providing free LPG connection to the beneficiaries under the central scheme, said Jan Seva Kendra Kendrapara district manager Rajanikant Rout.

The service started from Rajnagar block and the cooking gas will be available at the common service centres across the State in a phased manner, he said.

Initially, Indane gas service is available at Jan Seva Kendras in Rajnagar. Subsequently, the beneficiaries will have free LPG connection of HP and Bharat Gas at the common service centres, he added.

Worth mentioning, the Centre faced wrath from political parties and public following massive irregularities occurred in name of free LPG connection under the scheme across the country.

Recently, several such cases were reported from the coastal Odisha district where fake LPG connections were given to beneficiaries. In many cases, the record shows that many people already with LPG cylinders were provided free gas connection that they had never applied and others avail the benefits.
