Puri: Several students at schools in Puri Sadar of this district wrote their exams under candle lights as there was power outage for a long time, on Wednesday. Thanks to the Electricity department.

According to a source, power supply was interrupted for hours together since the night of Tuesday and was not restored till around afternoon of the next day. Due to adverse weather condition, darkness was prevailing everywhere in the classrooms and the students had no other way than to write their exams under the candle lights as an alternate arrangement.

Children from Class III to Class VIII appeared for the first sitting of exam between 7.00 am to 9.00 am for English subject. Similarly, students from Class VI to Class VIII appeared for second sitting exam between 9.00 am to 11.00 am for Sanskrit subject.

“It was heavily raining in Puri yesterday. Probably, power supply was disrupted due to the Nor’wester-induced rain,” Puri district education officer (DEO) Dipak Padhy said when contacted.

However, views of the Electricity department officials could not be obtained.
