Kendrapara: Kamala Moharana from Odisha's Kendrapara district, who was praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mann Ki Baat programme for her innovative recycling efforts, showcased her affection towards the PM as she sent a Rakhi for him.
The Rakhi has been crafted entirely from discarded materials. Modi had hailed her during the 98th episode of Mann Ki Baat on February 26.
Residing in the riverside village of Khairput, the 64-year-old woman is the driving force behind the 'Ama Dakhyata' Self-Help Group (SHG). Starting with a modest assembly of women in 2016, she has now extended her assistance to approximately 50 women, guiding them in transforming waste into aesthetically pleasing creations.
For the past seven years, she has been fashioning a diverse array of items, including baskets, pen stands, mobile phone holders, flower pots, hand fans, and wall hangings, all fashioned from discarded materials.
Kamala shared, "The pivotal moment in my life was when the PM showered praise on my endeavors. Modi ji is like an elder brother to me, which is why I meticulously crafted a Rakhi using discarded items such as plastic, polythene, and other materials. I sent this unique Rakhi to him via post on Monday."
