Ranpur: A 32-year-old woman devotee, who was residing in Prajapita Brahma Kumaris’ Ashram under Ranpur police limits in Nayagarh district, died today while undergoing treatment in a hospital.
On the other hand, the family of the deceased lodged an FIR in connection with the woman’s death.
The deceased inmate was identified as Satyabhama Sahu. She was the daughter of Debaraj Sahu from Balabhadrapur panchayat in the district.
A senior official at the police station said that the woman had been staying in Nuagaon and Gourangpur ashrams for more than last 15 years. She fell down on the floor all of a sudden in the morning and was brought to the health facility in critical condition by some women inmates of the ashram.
Satyabhama was later declared ‘dead’ by doctors in the hospital.
On being informed, Ranpur police reached the hospital and launched a probe.
“Parents of Satyabhama had earlier executed a deed in the name of the woman relating to a patch of land. Some senior inmates of the ashram (both male and female) were allegedly pressurising her to hand it over to the ashram,” the senior police official stated.
