Pre-poll violence: Over 5 BJP workers injured in alleged attack by BJD workers in Odisha’s Ganjam

Bhanjanagar: More than five BJP workers sustained grievous injuries after some BJD workers allegedly attacked them at Betara Chhak under Bhanjanagar police limits in Ganjam district, today evening.

Tension erupted in the nearby areas following the attack which led to severe injuries.

According to a source, a man identified as Subash Chandra Barad, who happens to be the husband of Dihapadhala sarpanch, was on his way on a motorcycle when he was intercepted by some BJD workers. An altercation ensued between them and the BJD workers allegedly attacked him.

Some locals who intervened in support of Subash were also attacked and were injured in the incident.

After hearing this, hundreds of locals congregated at the spot and staged a blockade on Bhanjanagar-Dasapalla road demanding an arrest of the accused persons. The protest was underway till the time when this report was filed. A team of Bhanjanagar police was trying to convince the irate agitators.

The injured were rescued by police and admitted to a hospital in Bhanjanagar for treatment.
