Pregnant woman found hanging: Deceased’s lover killed, hanged her in Odisha’s Keonjhar

Barbil: A probe team today claimed to have cracked the murder mystery of a pregnant woman who was earlier found hanging from a tree in Soyabali forest under Barbil police limits in Keonjhar district.

The deceased was a resident of Bada Indupur village under Koida police limits of Sundargarh district.

According to a police source, the pregnant woman was first killed and then hanged from a tree in the forest to eliminate evidence. This is a case of murder and not a case of death by suicide. The woman was allegedly killed by her lover identified as Satyaban Behera, who already has two wives.

Despite being a married man, Satyaban lured the third victim woman and gradually developed a physical relationship with her. Around two months after the victim woman became pregnant, Satyaban wanted to eliminate her as the woman pressurised him for marriage. Subsequently, he hatched a plan and killed her.

As per the planning, Satyaban had brought the woman from her house with him on a motorcycle on the intervening day on April 5. The love couple stayed at a Shaivite shrine in Santabahal village under Barbil police limits at night. In the wee hours at around 3.00 AM of the next day, Satyaban took her to the nearby forest to execute his notorious plan. The woman was strangled to death and then hanged.

Body of the victim woman was spotted by some locals on Aril 9, while hanging in the forest.

Following a detailed probe, Barbil police have arrested the accused in this connection.
