Puri, Jun 24:
Member of Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee and Secretary of Daitapati Niyog Premananda Das Mohapatra and his son-in-law Nabakrushna Prusty were arrested today for allegedly thrashing a doctor in Odisha's Puri last night.
According to reports, Das Mohapatra had gone to Puri hospital last night with his grandson as he was ill. Khirod Chandra Pal, the doctor on duty at that time, advised him to admit his grandson in the hospital saying that his health condition has deteriorated. The doctor asked Das Mohapatra to bring an admission ticket to admit the child following which the latter became furious and asked for contact number of the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO).
As the doctor denied to give CDMO's mobile number, Das Mohapatra started thrashing him. The doctor later lodged a complaint at Kumbharapada police station.
"At around 10.30 pm, Das Mohapatra along with 10-12 persons came to the hospital with a child and said that he is suffering from stomach ailment and vomiting. I asked them to bring an admission ticket in order to admit him and administer saline. However, Das Mohapatra asked for CDMO's number and after i denied, he scolded and thrashed me with an iron stool," the doctor said.
On the basis of the complaint, police had questioned Das Mohapatra yesterday and arrested him today along with his son-in-law. The duo was later forwarded to court today.
On the other hand, Das Mohapatra has also lodged a complaint against the doctor. "My one and a half year old grandson was seriously ill. I took him to hospital but Dr Pal misbehaved me there following which an exchange of words took place between us. The doctor first attacked my daughter with a stethoscope. Locals present there attacked the doctor but as I am a public figure, the complaint was lodged against me," said Das Mohapatra.
