Preparations begin for Akshaya Tritiya rituals at Srimandir tomorrow

Puri: Preparations for conduct of Akshaya Tritiya rituals to be held at Srimandir here tomorrow have begun in  full swing. The rituals, which mark commencement of  constriction of chariots for Ratha Jatra, will be performed at Chahani Mandap inside the centuries-old temple.

The place for conduct of the rituals inside the temple was finalised after a discussion among servitors and other stakeholders concerned this morning.

Besides, measurement of wood logs for ‘Ratha Anukula’ ceremony tomorrow began today. Meanwhile, a meeting chaired by Collector-cum-Deputy Chief of SJTA is underway to take decision on schedule and place of Ratha Jatra and Chandan Jatra rituals.

Last evening, Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb, after a meeting with Puri Shankaracharya, had informed that Akshaya Tritiya and Chandan Jatra rituals will be held inside Srimandir in view of COVID-19 situation. He further informed that the final decision on holding of Ratha Jatra will be taken after May 3 after considering the post-lockdown guidelines of the Government.
