President Droupadi Murmu conferred with honorary doctorate

Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu was conferred today with the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Law by the University of Mauritius. The prestigious honour was bestowed on President Murmu in recognition of the profound depth of the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

President Murmu addressed a huge gathering of Mauritian youth with her compelling message during an official ceremony held at the University of Mauritius. The President emphasised the importance of maintaining strong ties with India. She also encouraged the youth asking them to embrace and cherish their shared cultural heritage, an official source said.

Worth mentioning, the President is on a three-day official visit to Mauritius since Monday.

India has recently approved a special provision to grant an Oversees Citizenship of India (OCI) card to the seventh generation of Indian-origin people in Mauritius. This decision of the Government of India would allow the younger Mauritians of Indian origin to reconnect with the land of their ancestors.
