President Droupadi Murmu offers prayer at Lingaraj Temple

Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu, who is on her two-day visit to Odisha since yesterday, offered prayer at the Lingaraj Temple here today.

Before offering prayer at the famous Shiva shrine, the President moved to Bindu Sagar lake amid tight security making a little modification in her schedule and walked barefoot on the road from the holy waterbody to the Lingaraj Temple.

Sources said Murmu offered prayer to Lord Lingaraj by performing Jalabhishek and pouring milk on the Shivling inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. She will stay at the temple for around 40-45 minutes.

President’s daughter Itishree Murmu accompanied her in the trip to the Lingaraj Temple. Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal was present at the temple for her welcome.

After Lingaraj Temple, President Murmu is schedule to visit Cuttack where she will inaugurate the 2nd Indian Rice Congress at ICAR-National Rice Research Institute.

Yesterday, she had graced the Foundation Day celebration of Jnanaprabha Mission at Utkal Mandap in Bhubaneswar. Later in the day, she attended the 2nd Convocation of Rama Devi Women’s University in the capital city.
