Price of Covishield announced; Here’s rate chart

Bhubaneswar: In a major announcement by the Serum Institute of India (SII) ahead of massive vaccination drive for people above 18 years, the cost of Covishield was fixed for state governments and various private hospitals.

Following the directives of the Government of India, the SII announced the prices of the vaccine today.

As per the decision by the SII, the Covishield prices have been fixed at Rs 400 per dose for State Governments and Rs 600 per dose for private hospitals.

“Considering the global vaccine prices, we are ensuring that our vaccines are affordable in comparison to any other vaccines in the world,” the SII said in a release today.

While the American vaccines are available in the private market at Rs 1500 per dose, the cost of Russian vaccines is Rs 750 per dose and Chinese vaccines is Rs 750 per dose.

Welcoming the recent announcement made by the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare to accelerate India’s vaccination drive, the SII said that the promising directives will help to scale up vaccine production and allow state governments, private hospitals and vaccination centres to procure vaccines directly.

Of total vaccine capacities, 50% will be provided for Centre’s inoculation programme and remaining 50% will be provided to the state governments and private hospitals.

“For the next two months, we will address the limited capacity by scaling up the vaccine production. Going ahead, 50% of our capacities will be served to the Government of India’s vaccination programme and the remaining 50% of the capacity will be for the State Governments and private hospitals,” the SII said in a media statement.
