Principal’s wife dead, 8 staff injured after school bus overturns in Odisha’s Koraput

Boipariguda: A middle-aged woman was killed on the spot and eight others sustained grievous injuries today morning as a private school bus in which they were travelling turned turtle at Mantriamba Ghati under Boipariguda police limits in Koraput district.

The deceased woman was identified as Nilima Panda. She happened to be the wife of the principal of an English medium school located in Jeypore town in the district.

According to a source, around 23 persons from the school were travelling in the bus when the fatal road mishap occurred. They were on their way to visit the house of a peon of the school, who died earlier in the day. After getting news of the peon’s death, they were going to pay their last tribute.

Unfortunately, the brake of the ill-fated vehicle failed leading to the accident. The driver of the school bus lost control of the four-wheeler, as a result of which the vehicle overturned.

On being informed by some locals, Boipariguda police reached the spot and, with the help of a team of fire services personnel, rescued the injured and admitted them to hospital for treatment.

Police have sent the body of Nilima to hospital for post-mortem and launched a probe.

Notably, no schoolchildren were travelling in the bus at the time of the mishap.
