Probe begins into Chheligarh temple damage

A day after the vandalisation of the image of Hanuman and Siva temples by a group of miscreants at Chheligarh village, the police on Wednesday began a probe into the case.

A scientific team from Paralakhemundi led by scientific officer Akshaya Kumar Samal and fingerprint specialist BC Panigrahi arrived at the village on Wednesday and visited the two temples.

The team later went atop the temples and collected fingerprints of the miscreants who had damaged the Nilachakra of Hanuman temple and the top part of the Siva temple.

Meanwhile, Gajapati SP Charansingh Meena arrived at the village in the evening and requested the people of Chheligarh village to call off their bandh call by on Thursday and cooperate with the police. He assured the villagers that the police are trying their best to nab the miscreants.

Earlier in the day, former MLA of R Udayagiri Bharat Paika visited the village and strongly condemned the incident.

Keeping the palpable tension in view, two platoons of armed police forces have been deployed in the village.
