Probe crimes against women, children promptly, Odisha DGP tells officers

Odisha DGP Sanjeev Marik emphasized prompt and proper investigation of crime against women and children in the state while advising officers to exhibit exemplary leadership qualities and highest standard of professionalism, integrity and probity in their work in his inaugural address at the two day 58th Senior Police Officers’ Conference at Cuttack on Wednesday.

Marik asked officers to rise to the expectation of people in providing people friendly and effective policing in the state.

Sressing the strategic aspect of police leadership and man management in his address, the DGP advised officers to be courteous and polite while dealing with the general public. Women, children and weaker sections of the society in particular should be treated with greater sensitivity and empathy and crime against them should be dealt with promptly and properly.

Emphasizing the behavior of officers in the police stations which is at the cutting edge level of all police activities, the DGP said people visiting police stations must be treated courteously with dignity and with a sense of service.

The DGPurged officers to show restraint and use minimum force while dealing with law and order and crowd control situations. He also advised to take recourse to dialogue and discussion with the agitators well in advance to defuse developing law and order situations.

The top cop praised young SPs for their valiant effort in Maoist affected districts and advised them to strive sincerely and continuously so that there is no revival of Naxalism in the cleared areas and make sure it doesn’t spread to new areas.

Marik advised senior officers to inspect police stations regularly so as to streamline their functioning while emphasizing basic policing in the state.

The top cop appreciated senior officers for successfully managing the last general elections and the bye-election to Kandhamal Lok Sabha seat and elections to ULBs.
