Protest against LAccMI: Private bus owners to hold demo in front of Odisha Assembly on Nov 22

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association will hold a demonstration in front of the state Assembly in the capital city here on November 22.

At least 100 private bus owners will participate in the demonstration to press for their various demands. A general body meeting of the association in Cuttack today ratified a proposal in this regard.

The association had earlier announced that it would stage a demonstration in front of the Assembly on November 22 during the Winter Session to protest against the Location Accessible Multi-modal Initiative (LAccMI) of the state government.

The association had urged the state government to desist from launching bus service from block headquarters to districts headquarters under LAccMI scheme. It also pleaded before the government to bring parity between the fares charged by the private buses and LAccMI buses in the state.

Moreover, the private bus owners had urged the government to provide them tax and other concessions to replenish the losses inflicted on them due to implementation of the Mo Bus and LAccMI schemes in the state.

“We will hold a demonstration in front of the Odisha Assembly on November 22 and submit a memorandum to the state government to press for our demands,” said an office-bearer of the association today.

The association had earlier threatened to launch an indefinite strike across the state from December 1 if the government would not take any step to fulfill their demands.
