Puri demolition drive: Odisha CM felicitates 11 persons for donating property

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today felicitated 11 persons for voluntarily giving away property towards making Puri a world heritage city.

In a programme organized at Loka Seva Bhawan here, the CM presented silver filigree Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra idols to the 11 persons.

The CM heaped praise on these Puri families for their sacrifice.

“I am very happy that you accepted my appeal and gave away your lands for Srimandir security. People of Odisha will be indebted to you for this,” Patnaik said.

The state government is offering a good package for the affected people. As many as 11 families have accepted the offer. I urge others also to avail the benefits of the offer and cooperated in strengthening the security of the Lord Jagannath temple, he added.

“Your sacrifice will add a new history in the service of Lord Jagannath. The future generations of Odisha will remember your sacrifice,” he further added.

The persons who were felicitated are: Sanjukta Samal, Chandrakanti Das, Kumudini Guru, Ramadebi Sharma, Purnachandra Mohanty, Brajakishore Panda, Gadadhara Padhi, Kaliyug Gopalchandra Pratihari, Rajkishore Sahu and Sashibhusan Das.

The state government had launched a demolition drive around the 12th century shrine to free it from encroachments. Besides, unsafe structures including mutts were razed in view of the security of the world famous Hindu shrine.
