Puri’s transformation inches closer as CM lays foundation stone of 7 projects

Puri: The pilgrim town of Puri in Odisha is all set to get a major facelift as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today laid foundation stone of seven projects here. Patnaik also visited the Shree Jagannath Temple here and had darshan of the deities besides reviewing the heritage corridor project around the temple.

The projects which would play a major role in transformation of the town are Shree Setu Project, Jagannath Ballav Pilgrim Centre, Multi-level Car Parking, Redevelopment of Municipal Market at Bada Danda, Vending Zone at Beach, Centralised Kitchen for Mid-Day Meal & Aahaar and Swargadwar Development.

Here are details of the projects:

Shree Setu Project (Under ABADHA Scheme):

Shree Setu project has been conceived to provide a direct access-controlled entry to the Jagannath Ballav Pilgrim Center (JBPC) from the NH-316, with a view to avoid traffic congestion. It shall consist of (a) Grade Separated Junction on the NH-316 with trumpet arrangement, (b) connecting road (c) Grade Separated intersection on the NH-316A and (d) viaduct between the NH and JBPC.

Length of road and bridge: 2.3 km.

Project cost: Rs 181 Crore.

 

Jagannath Ballav Pilgrim Centre (Under ABADHA Scheme):

Jagannath Ballav Pilgrim Center has been envisioned as a six-storey building located at Jagannath Ballav Math near Narendra Kona, Puri. The building will have Multi-Level Parking space for 1000 cars, Commercial Space, Meditation Space, Multi-modal Hub and Public Utilities.

Project cost: Rs 190 Crore.

 

Multi-level Car Parking on Jail Road near Hospital Square (Under ABADHA Scheme):

Multi-level Car Parking near Hospital Square shall be a building with four-storey configuration located at Old Jail complex, Puri. It will have parking space for 500 cars and 500 two wheelers and 350 vending outlets.

 Project cost: Rs 90.22 Crore.

 

Redevelopment of Municipal Market at Bada Danda (Under ABADHA Scheme):

Redevelopment of Municipal Market at Bada Danda, Puri shall be a building with five-storey configuration. It will house 500 vending outlets and parking space for 1000 cars.

 

Vending Zone at Beach:

As many as 800 organised and aesthetically built kiosks shall be provided for rehabilitating the existing ambulatory beach vendors at Puri beach.

Project cost: Rs 12 Crore.

 

Centralised Kitchen for Mid-Day Meal & AHAAR:

A centralized kitchen facility of about 50,000 sq ft shall be created at Mangalaghat for 50,000 children under Mid-Day Meal and AAHAR scheme.

 

Swargadwar Development: Rs 5 crore has been sanctioned for the development of Swargadwar in the town. Under the project, modern facilities will be made available for cremation and pallbearers at Swargadwar, which was ravaged by cyclone FANI. This apart, facilitation of the cremation process during all seasons will be ensured. Construction of restrooms for pallbearers, afforestation, facilities for collection and conservation of mortal remains will be a part of the project.
