Ragging at MKCG Medical College: First year student thrashed by seniors; complaint filed

Berhampur: A first year student of the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here sustained injuries after allegedly being thrashed by seniors.

The matter came to fore after the father of the victim lodged a complaint in this regard with the Baidyanathpur police.

As per the allegations, the incident took place on February 9 night when the student, a hostel inmate of the medical college, had gone to drop off two of his seniors after band rehearsal.

While returning, some other senior students beat him up, as a result of which he sustained injuries on his face and neck.

“The student has reported the matter to the anti-ragging cell of the medical college. A probe is being conducted and necessary action will be taken after the investigation,” said Santosh Kumar Mishra, Principal, MKCG Medical College.

On the other hand, police have registered a case and started investigation by recording the statement of the victim and others in this connection. The victim also underwent medical examination.

The accused students have been asked to appear at the police station for questioning.
