Nayagarh, July 19:
The Juvenile Justice Board today sent three minors, accused of ragging a batchmate, to juvenile correctional home in Odisha’s Angul for bringing reform in their disposition.
The three students of a private junior college— Divine Residential College— in Nayagarh were produced before the Board today which has kept its verdict reserved and sent the accused to the Angul-based facility for a temporary period.
“The Nayagarh administration today brought three children to us. Going through the allegations against them, it has been decided to send them to a juvenile correctional home at Angul for a temporary period for reformation in their behavior,” member of Nayagarh Juvenile Justice Board Swadesh Mishra said.
The decision on their bail pleas will be taken later, Mishra added.
Meanwhile, the college authorities have written to the parents of the accused to collect College Leaving Certificate (CLC) of their respective children from the institution.
“Following a complaint, we took immediate action and expelled them from the hostel as well as college,” Kamalakanta Sahu, Chairman of Divine Residential College said.

The action comes a day after the victim’s father lodged a complaint with the Nayagarh police alleging the trio of ragging his son, a first year student of the residential college. The victim was admitted to District Headquarters Hospital yesterday with several injuries on his body. He was discharged from the hospital today.
“The Higher Education department has asked to take action as per law,” Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahi said.
Earlier in the day, a two-member team from the district child protection unit had interrogated the trio accused of physically and mentally torturing the victim.
“They used to beat me, torture me and threaten me to kill me if I expose them,” the victim stated.
On the other hand, the parents of the victim have sought stringent punishment to the accused.
The local police are investigating into the allegations as well as the role of the institution, sources said.
