Bhubaneswar: The newly appointed Governor of Odisha, Raghubar Das, was sworn in here today. Orissa High Court Acting Chief Justice Dr. Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi administered the oath of office to Das at 11.45 A.M. at Raj Bhawan.
Prior to taking oath as the Governor of Odisha, Das offered prayer at the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar in the morning. Yesterday, he visited the Jagannath Temple seeking blessing from deities ahead of taking new charge.
On October 18, President of India Droupadi Murmu appointed Raghubar Das, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, as the Governor of Odisha, replacing Professor Ganeshi Lal, whose five-year tenure ended in May this year.
Born on May 3, 1955, in Jamshedpur, Das was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1995. He won the seat five times before becoming the Chief Minister of Jharkhand. He served Jharkhand as the 6th Chief Minister from 2014 to 2019.
He was the Deputy Chief Minister of Jharkhand for a brief period from December 30, 2009 to May 29, 2010.
Das had begun his political career from the Janata Party in 1977. Later, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as its founding member in 1980.
He was appointed as the President of Jharkhand BJP in 2004. He served as the Urban Development Minister of the state in Chief Minister Arjun Munda’s Cabinet in 2005.
In 2019 Assembly Elections, he was defeated from Jamshedpur East Assembly seat. Later, he was appointed as the national vice-president of BJP.
