Raid on Kalinga Hospital in Odisha capital, medicines seized

Bhubaneswar: The Drug Control Administration under the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Odisha government today conducted surprise raid on Kalinga Hospital here.

Sources said the team comprising three members seized six medicines administered to the in-patients. The officials also directed the hospital authorities not to use these items till the test reports confirm the quality of the medicines.

It was alleged that the city-based private hospital had been procuring inferior quality medicines.

The BR Life acquired hospital was in news for wrong reasons recently. The healthcare facility allegedly did not release body of a patient over non-payment of dues.

Keonjhar MLA Mohan Majhi intervened into the issue. However, he was allegedly misbehaved by the hospital staff.

Following this, the hospital was dropped from the list of Odisha State Treatment Fund (OSTF) effective July 19.

A four-member team was formed to probe into the matter of alleged misbehaviour with the MLA. While Health and Family Welfare Department joint secretary G Poonam Tapas Kumar was the chairperson of the probe committee, joint secretary Subhananda Mohapatra, deputy secretary Rajesh Agarwal and Yamini Patnaik were the members. It is believed that the raid was conducted after the panel submitted its report to the government.
