Rail Ministry’s nod to Final Location Survey for Jharsuguda-Barkot line in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Railways has given its sanction for conducting the Final Location Survey (FLS) for new rail line between Jharsuguda and Barkot in Deogarh district of Odisha.

The FLS will be conducted at an expenditure of Rs 4 crore for preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the new rail line between Jharsuguda and Barkot (160 km), said a notification issued by the Ministry of Railways today.

The survey will pave the way for connecting Deogarh district with the rail network of the country, said a source.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, meanwhile, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for sanction of the FLS for new rail line between Jharsuguda and Barkot.

Pradhan had written to the Railway Minister on July 10 seeking immediate measures to link Deogarh with the rail network. He had raised the issue with the Railway Minister after receiving a representation in this regard from the citizens’ forum of Deogarh, sources said.

“Sanctioning of the FLS for Jharsuguda-Barkot line is an important step for connecting Deogarh with the rail network of India. The project will boost economic development in the region,” said Pradhan in a statement.
