Rain likely: Odisha issues advisory, puts 18 dist collectors on alert
Bhubaneswar: With rains forecast in Odisha from Thursday till Saturday under the influence of low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal, Revenue and Disaster Mitigation Minister Maheswar Mohanty today held a high-level emergency meeting with officials to discuss on measures to be undertaken to protect crops.
In the meeting Collectors of 18 districts were directed to remain on alert while Collectors of southern and coastal districts were asked to make field visits and alert people using public address systems to protect their paddy crops by harvesting and storing it at a safe place under cover.
Further, it has been directed to disburse agriculture input subsidy to farmers in drought, unseasonal rain and pest affected areas latest by December 15.
By now input subsidy amounting to Rs 62 crore has been credited to the accounts of affected farmers through online transfer.
“Except Malkangiri, Collectors of all other districts have been directed to finish disbursement of input subsidy to farmers affected due to drought, unseasonal rain and pest attack latest by December 15,” Revenue Minister told reporters after the meeting.
“Rain is likely to be sporadic on December 7 with little impact. However, on 8th and 9th rain will increase. Gajapati, Ganjam, Khordha, Cuttack, Puri and Jagasinghpur-these pockets will receive more rainfall,” informed Sarat Sahu, Director Regional Meteorological Centre, who was also an attendee at the meeting.
