Rain likely to dampen Diwali 2022 celebration in Odisha; Check IMD’s forecast

Bhubaneswar: Several districts of Odisha are likely to experience rainfall on Diwali (October 24) under the influence of predicted cyclone ‘Sitrang’ over the Bay of Bengal.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall warning for the districts on the day of Diwali.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur on October 24, the IMD forecasted.

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Khordha, Puri and Ganjam on October 24, it added.

The IMD also issued wind warning for the state in connection with the predicted cyclone.

Squally wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph on 23rd October, 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph on 24th October and 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph on 25th October is very likely along and off Odisha coast, it said.

The cyclonic storm is likely to form over westcentral and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal by 24th October. Thereafter, it is likely to move north-northeastwards and reach near West Bengal – Bangladesh coasts on 25th October, skirting Odisha coast.
