Rain likely to spoil Diwali celebrations in Odisha even as monsoon bids farewell

Bhubaneswar: Rainfall is likely to play spoilsport during Diwali celebrations in Odisha even as the southwest monsoon withdrew from the entire state today.

“The Southwest Monsoon has withdrawn from the remaining parts of Odisha today, the 17th October, 2017 and also Southwest Monsoon has withdrawn from the whole Odisha,” a bulletin of the meteorological centre said.

However, the low pressure area over central Bay of Bengal now lies as a well marked low pressure area over central and adjoining south Bay of Bengal.

Under its influence, rainfall likely to increase from October 18 in south and coastal Odisha region and thereafter in north Odisha region.

Strong and gusty surface wind from northeasterly direction with speed reaching 35 to 45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph likely to prevail along and off Odisha coast. Sea condition is likely to be moderate to rough along and off Odisha coast for which fishermen have been advised to be cautious while venturing into sea.
