Rain may dampen I-Day celebrations in Odisha as IMD predicts fresh spell of heavy showers from Aug 15

Bhubaneswar: Rain may dampen Independence Day celebrations as the IMD has predicted a spell of heavy rainfall in several Odisha districts starting August 15.

The western end of monsoon trough runs close to foothills of the Himalayas and its eastern end at mean sea level continue to pass through Baharaich, Sitamarhi, Kishanganj and thence eastwards towards Manipur. The trough from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim to northwest Bay of Bengal across Gangetic West Bengal extending up to 3.1 Km above mean sea level persists, said the IMD in its weather report today.

August 13: As per the IMD prediction, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapara on August 13. The IMD has issued a yellow warning in this regard.

Besides, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of North Interior Odisha, Sonepur, Bolangir, Boudh and at a few places over the remaining districts of Odisha on the day.

August 14: The IMD has predicted thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Puri and Khurda on August 14. A yellow warning has been issued in this regard.

Similarly, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Odisha on the day, said the IMD.

August 15: As per the IMD forecast, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore on August 15.

Besides, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of North Odisha and at many places over the districts of South Odisha on the day.

August 16: The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Boudh, Kandhamal, Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on August 16. The IMD has issued a yellow warning in this regard.

Similarly, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Interior Odisha and at many places over the districts of Coastal Odisha on the day, said the IMD.
