Rain, thunderstorm likely in these Odisha districts on May 5

Bhubaneswar: The IMD has predicted rain or thunderstorm in several districts of Odisha on May 5 (Friday).

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur and at one or two places over the remaining districts of Odisha on May 5, said the IMD regional centre here today.

As per the prediction, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching up to 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapati on the day. The IMD has issued a Yellow warning in this regard.

Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Keonjhar and Nabarangpur on May 5, said the IMD.

Some districts of Odisha may witness rain or thunderstorm till May 8, it added.

A cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over Southeast Bay of Bengal around May 6. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over the same region around May 7. It is likely to concentrate into a depression over Southeast Bay of Bengal on May 8, said the IMD.

Thereafter, the system is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm while moving nearly northwards towards central Bay of Bengal. The details of its path and intensification will be provided after the formation of low pressure area. The system is under constant watch and being monitored regularly, added the weatherman.
