Rainfall likely to decrease in Odisha from today; Low Pressure to form over Bay around Oct 20

Bhubaneswar: Rainfall activity is likely to decrease in Odisha from today till October 19 as the Regional Meteorological Centre here has not issued any warning for the state till the aforementioned date.

However, a low pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal around October 20, which may trigger rainfall across the state.

“A cyclonic circulation is likely to form over north Andaman Sea & neighbourhood around 18th October 2022. It would move west northwestwards towards westcentral and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal becoming low pressure area around 20th October, 2022,” the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

On the other hand, conditions are very likely to become favourable for withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from some parts of interior Odisha during the next 2 days, it added.

The forecasted low pressure area may move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over west-central Bay of Bengal during the beginning of the ‘week 2’ (October 21 to 27), the IMD had said in its North Indian Ocean Extended Range Outlook for Cyclogenesis.

The system will be named as Cyclone Sitrang in the case of its further intensification into a cyclonic storm.
