Raj Kundra started deleting WhatsApp chats, groups and was destroying evidence: Prosecutor

Mumbai/Bhubaneswar: Businessman Raj Kundra – prime accused in the sensational pornographic films racket case – has been remanded to judicial custody for two weeks till August 10

Kundra was arrested on July 19 for allegedly producing and publishing pornographic content.

Public prosecutor Aruna Pai informed the Bombay High Court that the real reason why Kundra was arrested was because he had started deleting his WhatsApp groups and chats, thus ‘destroying evidence’.

Besides Kundra, his IT associate Ryan Thorpe has also been arrested in connection with the case.

Pai further revealed that the Mumbai Police had seized 51 pornographic films from two apps believed to be ‘Hotshots’ and ‘Bolly Fame’.

Mumbai Police are also investigating Yash Thakur alias Arvind Shrivastava for his alleged role in the case. “I have clarified through my lawyer that Nuefliks is a US based company and I was hired as a consultant. I have never spoken to Raj Kundra or any of his associates,” Thakur said, denying all allegations against him, as quoted by TOI.

Actress Gehana Vaisith, who was arrested before being released on bail for her involvement in the case, had earlier claimed that the Mumbai Police had demanded a bribe of Rs 15 lakh from her to avoid her arrest.

“I have heard Gehana’s interview where she has mentioned the police asked for money and that is true. She arranged some money. Her lawyer told me that the police were demanding money and asked me if I can arrange some more money as Gehana could manage to arrange only Rs 6 to 7 lakh. About 10 to 15 lakh was demanded as per the call from her lawyer,” Thakur said commenting on Gehana’s claims.
