With an aim to provide safety against Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) related fire accidents and save gas consumption by 25% , a Bangalore-based company Relon today launched ‘Rakshak Gas Guard’ in the Odisha’s capital city.

Invented by a Bangalore-based researcher BG Raghavendra Rao of Indian Institute of Science (IISc), the product, a tiny palm-sized equipment gives complete safety to users of any type of LPG.

After 12 long years of effort, Rao succeeded in designing this safety equipment.

He also holds the nation‐wide patent for the product.

“I decided to design a safety solution to stop these accidents in future. After years of experiments, I have developed the Guard. There are certain equipments for the safety of LPG. But, this is the only device that provides safety and saves gas at the same time. We have produced this equipment at a cheaper price to make it affordable for the common man,” Rao said.

According to Rao, the cost of all essential day‐to‐day commodities, especially the LPG, has been increasing day by day and cutting into everybody’s pcoket.

“There have been 4005 cases of deaths and 281 injuries due to LPG mishaps as per the recent survey report of National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB).The survey showed that 82 per cent of victims in gas accidents were women,” the researcher informed, adding, the Rakshak Gas Guard would ensure LPG safety and also save gas.

Kumar Nayak, Director, Operations of Relon said two types of models have been launched in the city- one for domestic purpose which costs Rs 4,999 and another for commercial use. The cost of the latter varies from Rs 30,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh.

Odisha is the second state in which the product has been launched after Karnataka.

The company manufactures 45,000 units per month.

” Very soon the product will be used by every household as we will engage marketing professionals in the state to educate people about the need for and the usage of this device, Nayak said.
