Former MLA from Gunupur and BJD state secretary Ramamurty Gamang resigned from the party and joined the BJP this afternoon.
Gamang’s decision comes after he was denied a party ticket to contest the Gunupur assembly seat.
Earlier in the day, the ruling party had named Trinath Gamang as its candidate for Gunupur assembly seat.
“I have joined the BJP because the people of the country want Narendra Modi, whom the BJD is opposing,” said Gamang, who was elected twice as MLA from Gunupur in 1990 on Janata Dal ticket and in 2000 on BJP ticket.
Gamang is likely to contest from the Gunupur assembly constituency on a BJP ticket.
