Rape accused thrashed to death by villagers in Odisha

Soro: Villagers thrashed a rape accused to death at Singakhunta under Soro tehsil of Balasore district.

The deceased has been identified as Basant Singh (35) of the same village.

As per reports, Basant entered the house of a married woman in the village finding her alone and raped her yesterday afternoon. When the woman screamed for help, some villagers rushed to her rescue and caught hold of the accused. They sent the woman to a hospital in Soro for treatment.

Taking law into hands, the angry locals went on beating the accused leaving him critically injured. Later, they kept him tied up to a tree for long leading  to his death.

“With all the injuries and unbearable heat after being tied up to a tree, the rape accused died on the spot,” said a villager requesting anonymity .

On receiving information, Soro police led by IIC Madhumkta Mohanty went to spot at around 9.30 pm for an investigation. However, no police complaint was registered in this connection till the last report was filed.
