Kandhamal: A prisoner convicted in a rape and murder case escaped from Baliguda Sub-Jail reportedly by cutting grill of a window here in the district on Monday.

The prisoner has been identified as Tukuna Mali, a resident of Kumbharigaon under Brahmanigaon police limits in Kandhamal district.

According to reports, the rape and murder convict Tukuna was lodged at the Baliguda Sub-Jail under high security. However, he managed to flee from the prison by cutting grill of a window on Monday night.

The jail authorities came about the incident when the prisoner was found absent in the morning.

The search operation is underway to ascertain his whereabout.
