Rasulgarh flyover in Odisha capital opens partially for public

Much-awaited flyover connecting Bhubaneswar-Cuttack in busy Rasulgarh area in Odisha capital was partially opened for commuters today.

The construction work of the flyover had resulted traffic snarls causing inconvenience to the commuters.

The flyover has been partially opened today, with traffic flow allowed from Bhubaneswar towards Cuttack. The flyover will be fully operational during Dusherra when the road from Cuttack to Bhubaneswar will also be opened, an official said.

An official of Shree Jagannath Expressways Private Limited (SJEPL), which is executing the road work, said that the complete flyover would be opened in next 10 days provided it doesn’t rain in the next 4 days.

Twin City commissioner of police Dr R P Sharma along with senior police officials was present during the trial run.

The work on the Rasulgarh flyover has been going on for more than four years largely due to roadblocks such as encroachment and non-availability of land.

The NHAI had signed an agreement with Sri Jagannath Expressway Pvt Ltd, a concessionaire of three private firms (SREI, Simplex and GALFAR), on August 6, 2010, for widening and redevelopment of the 67-km-long Bhubaneswar-Chandikhol section of the Kolkata-Chennai highway.

The project will cost Rs 1,047 crore out of which NHAI will provide Rs 205 crore, while the rest of the fund will generated by the developer through design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis.
