Puri: The divine juggernaut rolled on Bada Danda towards the Gundicha Temple on the second day of the world-famous Ratha Jatra of Lord Jagannath in Odisha's pilgrim town Puri.
The chariot pulling resumed at 9.30 AM after the completion of rituals of deities atop the chariots, which were halted midway, just a few meters away from the Singhadwara of the Jagannath Temple yesterday.
Amid sounds of cymbals, conches and gongs reverberating the sky, the devotees and security personnel pulled three majestic chariots -- Taladhwaja, Darpadalana and Nandighosha -- carrying Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath respectively towards the Gundicha Temple, the birthplace of deities.
First, the Taladhwaja chariot was pulled followed by Devi Subhadra's Darpadalana and Lord Jagannath's Nandighosha chariot on the Grand Road.
As per the schedule, the chariot-pulling ritual was paused after sunset on Sunday. As three major occasions -- Netra Utsav, Nabajoubana darshan and Ratha Jatra -- fell on the same day after 53 years, the rituals for the events took place on one day.
More than a million of devotees crowded the Grand Road to witness the annual Ratha Jatra festival. President Droupadi Murmu, Odisha Governor Raghubar Das, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik were present at the event.
