Ravenshaw Mahamilan: Alumni reminisce bygone days

Cuttack: Ravenshaw University in Odisha’s Cuttack today brought the who’s who of politics, corporate, bureaucracy, literature and from many other fields under one roof as more than 3000 alumni turned up to celebrate the 150 years of the premier academic institution.

The mega alumni meet saw the presence of 19 year to 90 year old, all were feeling nostalgic and trying to recall their fond memories associated with their alma mater.

Alumni from 1940s to 2017 of the erstwhile Ravenshaw College, which was upgraded into a university in 2006, attended the event. And, many of them who are quite well-known and excelled in their own fields, spoke about their college days to a packed audience.

“Everybody in Ravenshaw is somebody in Odisha. Had Ravenshaw College not existed, had we not studied here, probably, we wouldn’t be what we are today,” said alumni association President and Editor of leading Odia daily ‘Sambad’ Soumya Ranjan Patanik.

On the occasion, the alumni association of the premier varsity has formed a fund in order to provide financial support to needy-meritorious students. Around Rs 2 lakh has been collected today.

The event started at around 10.30 am and continued till 1.30 pm followed by lunch and cultural programme.

Among the well-known alumni of Ravenshaw who attended the event are Padmashree Manoj Das, Padma Vibhushan Sitakant Mohapatra, renowned Neurosurgeon Sanatana Rath, noted scientist Jogesh Chandra Pati, former police DG Amiya Bhusan Tripathy and eminent playwright Ananta Mahapatra.
