RD varsity pics case: Odisha CB forms eight-member probe team

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Mar 27:

Odisha Crime Branch (CB) today formed an eight-member special team to investigate into the posting of photographs of over 100 Rama Devi (RD) Women’s University students on social networking site Facebook with objectionable remarks.

The eight-member special team will have two women inspectors and three male inspectors, reports said.

One assistant sub inspector and another employee will assist the inspectors in the probe.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ordered for a probe of the incident by the Crime Branch.

The Chief Minister ordered the probe after 40 girl students of RD Women’s University, Sailabala Women’s College and Kamala Nehru Women’s College, led by Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) president Byomkesh Ray, met Patnaik at the Odisha Assembly demanding Crime Branch investigation into the matter.

The students of RD Women’s University had yesterday staged a demonstration demanding Crime Branch probe and intervention of the Chief Minister in the matter.

Notably, photographs of over 100 students of the varsity were posted on Aarohi Creations’ Facebook page with objectionable caption “sex contest”.

Several girl students had filed a complaint with Saheed Nagar police against Aarohi Creations’ chief Sujit Sahu on Saturday.

Police yesterday recorded statements of some students under section 161 of the CrPC while making efforts to nab Sahu.

Sources said, a few days back under the garb of conducting a display picture competition among the students, Sahu had visited the varsity.

After a few days of Sahu’s visit to the varsity campus, pictures of several students were seen posted on social networking site Facebook with objectionable remarks against them.
