Bhubaneswar: When the World Health Organisation (WHO) warned countries of the new Covid-19 variant saying the virus poses ‘very high’ risk, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed officials to reactivate the protocols that was followed during first and second waves.
During a Covid review meeting Patnaik emphasized on the need for the State government to reactivate the protocols, and keep the Covid facilities and personnel on high alert.
Citing that the government adopted cautious approach towards the pandemic, Patnaik claimed the State successfully controlled the two past waves despite challenges. He hopes the State will successfully tackle the recent resurgence of disease.
He emphasised on the need to enforce the Covid safety protocols strictly and directed the DGP to ensure the same. Also, the Chief Minister praised the Odisha Police for measures they took during the first and second waves.
Patnaik asked the I&PR department to start a new awareness campaign to sensitise the people on face mask wearing, hand hygiene and social distancing norms.
“Collectors should involve all sections of the society including the PRI Members, Mission Shakti groups, etc. and ensure awareness and enforcement. This new wave of Covid virus spread seems to be more infectious and therefore, make sure everyone takes it seriously,” said the Chief Minister during the review meeting.
