Bhubaneswar, Aug 18 :

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch (CB) on Saturday arrested Krishna Mohan Rao, a realtor, the third accused in a land scam in the city.

Earlier, Crime Branch had arrested former OAS officer Falguni Singh, who allegedly engineered the illegal 2-acre land deal during his tenure as Bhubaneswar tehsildar in 1979. His brother Sabyasachi was also arrested on charges of abetting the crime.

Rao was wanted in the same case for purchasing the two-acre land , originally owned by the GA department, by fraudulently means from a Cuttack-based businessman.

"During investigation, we found that Rao had connived with Singh and grabbed the land by giving a person the power of attorney. Rao who happens to be a friend of Singh sold plots to many individuals after registering the illegally acquired land in his name", said DIG (EOW) Rajesh Kumar.

The former tehsildar had allegedly grabbed the two-acre land at Patia and transferred the title deed to His brother who in turn gave the power of attorney to the Cuttack-based businessman in 1992.
