Record tax collection by Odisha Transport dept

The Transport department of the Odisha government has achieved a record growth in tax collection in the 2015-16 financial year by collecting 97.5 % of the target amount, departmental sources revealed.

Sources said the department’s tax collection was 14.55 % higher as compared to the previous fiscal.

While the department had set a target of Rs 1070 crore for the last fiscal, it has managed to collect Rs 1043.32 crore towards motor vehicle tax, the sources added.

Sources said among all the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs), Bhubaneswar RTO-II has emerged as the highest tax collector.

As per information, the target for the RTO-II was Rs 32.07 crore and it surpassed the target amount by collecting Rs 38.84 crore. While the RTO-II has registered a 121 % growth in total income it has recorded a growth rate of 45.3 % as compared to last year.

On the other hand, Bhubaneswar RTO-I has collected a tax of Rs 108.75 crore while it was given a target of Rs 121.78 crore, thereby achieving 98 percent of the target amount. The RTO has registered a growth rate of 15.35 %.

The Bhubaneswar RTO-II is ahead of the rest of the RTOs in terms of the collection of arrear tax. While the target was Rs 45.12 lakh, it collected a whopping  Rs 99.90 lakh.
