Red Warning: Very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall to lash 6 Odisha districts on September 13

Bhubaneswar: Due to prevalent monsoon trough and cyclonic circulation, scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) with isolated extremely heavy (>20cm) rainfall to occur over six districts of Odisha during next 24 hours. India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre today issued Red Warning in some districts for the next two days, and Orange Warning and Yellow Warning in some others.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD regional centre said, “The cyclonic circulation over eastcentral Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood now lies over central parts of Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Bay of Bengal extends up to 7.6 Km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours. Subsequently, it is likely to become more marked and move westnorthwestwards across south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coast. The east-west trough now runs from cyclonic circulation over southwest Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood to cyclonic circulation over central parts of Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Bay of Bengal across southeast Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, north Odisha and extends up to 3.1 Km above mean sea level. Another trough runs from cyclonic circulation over central parts of Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Bay of Bengal to north coastal Andhra Pradesh between 4.5 and 7.6 Km above mean sea level.”

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur in most places over the districts of Odisha. The highest maximum temperature of 36.2oC was recorded at Chandbali and the lowest minimum temperature of 22.0oC was recorded at Phulbani in the plains of Odisha.

Red Warning (Take Action)- Scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) likely to occur in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Bolangir and Kandhamal.

Orange Warning (Be Prepared)- Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada.

Yellow Warning (Be Updated)- Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) ) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur.

Thunderstorm and lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Kandhamal and Boudh.

For Wednesday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 13.09.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 14.09.2023)

Red Warning (Take Action)- Scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) with isolated extremely heavy (>20cm) is likely to occur in the districts of Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Kandhamal and Ganjam.

Orange Warning (Be Prepared)- Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Puri, Gajapti, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh and Sambalpur.

Yellow Warning (Be Updated)- Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Bhadrak and Kendrapara.
