Registration of power of attorney document to be made mandatory in Odisha

Finance minister Pradip Kumar Amat on Monday informed the Odisha Assembly that the state government has decided to make the registration of power of attorney documents mandatory.

Replying to a question by BJD Member Amar Prasad Satpathy during the Question Hour, he said the state has been able to exceed the target in the collection of its own revenue during 2013-14 fiscal.

The minister said the government had collected Rs 25,093 crore towards its own tax and non-tax revenue during 2013-14 against the target of Rs 24, 430 crore which was 102 per cent of the targeted amount.

Similarly, as against the revenue target collection of Rs 6,825 non tax revenue, Rs 8,202 crore has been collected during 2013-14 which is 120 per cent of the target, Amat added.

He also said as against the target for collection of Rs 17,605 crore from its own tax, the state government has collected Rs 16,891 crore during 2013-14 fiscal which was 95.95 per cent of the target.

He also said the state government with a view to augmenting additional revenue, would amend the Odisha Apartment Rules and the existing Electricity Tariff Act.

The Finance minister said In view of the slowdown in the economy, the Government at a meeting held under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary on April 30 last had decided to take a series of steps to achieve the target during the current financial year, he said.

The Finance minister also informed that the state government has hiked the VAT on liquor (IMFL) from 20 to 25 per cent and on petrol and diesel from 18 to 20 per cent and taken steps to collect the pending arrear amount on various central public sector undertakings (CPSUs) to achieve the target.
