Renewal period of registration of construction workers under the Odisha Building & Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board has been increased to three years instead of the earlier one year, informed Board Chairman Subash Singh here at a press conference today.
“Registration of construction workers engaged in government and private jobs will be mandatory. Registrations will be made under section 7 of the Construction Workers’ Act. Registration of construction workers with the Board has been made mandatory under section 12 of the Construction Workers’ Act,” Singh said.
“The decision will be highly beneficial for construction workers working outside the state. This apart, engineers of all departments in the state have been empowered to collect one percent cess. Further, engineers have been vested with powers to register construction workers engaged under them and with different contractors. Departmental engineers have been directed for strict implementation of the decision,” he added.
Singh informed that all arrangements and allocation have been made to provide pucca houses to construction workers residing in five out of ten cities in the state under the Rental Housing Scheme adding that it will be initially taken up in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Rourkela and Sambalpur.
