Repeal of three farm laws is success of Congress: party’s Odisha In-charge

Bhubaneswar: Congress party described repeal of three controversial farm laws as its success in over a year-long battle for farmers.

“On birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhiji, announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for withdrawal of three anti-farmer laws is the success of Congress party and the credit has to go to the farmers of this nation,” said Odisha Congress In-charge Dr. A. Chellakumar during a preparatory meeting in Bhubaneswar.

On November 26, 2020, the farmers of country had started an agitation programme in Delhi demanding roll back of three controversial farm laws.

More than 700 lives were lost in this last one year. But, all these things have never been taken into seriously by the Prime Minister of this country. After the BJP lost certain assembly and parliamentary seats in Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Rajasthan, the Centre is forced to withdraw anti-farmer laws today, he said.

“It is in anticipation of expecting a dividant from people of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, Narendra Modi announced this. Though, it is an anticipation of a coming assembly election, Congress party welcomes it because it is going to help crores of farmers of this nation,” Chellakumar said.

He said that Congress party, right from Delhi to the grassroot, top Congress leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi and all the Congress workers also stood with the farmers and fought for their cause.

“If Narendra Modi would have understood the plight of farmers, we would not have lost 750 valuable lives,” he reiterated.

Speaking on repeal of farm laws that were strongly opposed by farmers across the country, Odisha PCC President Niranjan Patnaik said, “The black laws were withdrawn. I bow my head to all farmers participated and lost lives in protest against the new farm laws.”

The opposition party said that the decision was taken in view of forthcoming elections.

“PM’s announcement on the withdrawal of the three farm laws is not inspired by a change of policy or a change of heart. It is impelled by fear of elections!” said senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram
