Rescued leopard dies during treatment in Odisha’s Nuapada

While the leopard was ailing and showing no signs of improvement, it is being alleged that big cat died due to negligence by the Forest department.

Nuapada: The leopard which was rescued by forest personnel from a jungle in a critical state last month, died during treatment in Nuapada district of Odisha on Monday night.

While the leopard was ailing and showing no signs of improvement, it is being alleged that big cat died due to negligence by the Forest department.

As per reports, the leopard was rescued in a critical state from Amkoni jungle in Siliaribahara village which comes under Dharambanda section of Nuapada forest range on April 16. The big cat was shifted to the range office where a veterinary and scientific team treated it for 22 days. As it could not eat flesh, liquid diet was given to the leopard but sources said it stopped eating after a few days and did not respond to the treatment.

While official sources said the leopard had suffered a sun stroke, the scientific team informed that the animal had three four other ailments which could have resulted in its death.

“There was no progress in the leopard’s treatment. We had requested that the leopard be shifted to Bhubaneswar for further treatment but since there was no response, it was being looked after in Nuapada,” informed Nuapada ACF Muhammad Mustaf Saliha.
