Sundargarh: A woman and her young daughter, who were rescued while walking naked on a busy road in Odisha's Sundargarh district, returned to their native place in Chhattisgarh.
The mother-daughter duo went back to their home with their family members today morning. The Sundargarh Town Police had handed over the rescued women to their family yesterday.
On October 6, BJP MLA Kusum Tete rescued the two women, who were walking along College Road, with no clothes on. She found them mentally disturbed and under trauma.
After the rescue, the Sundargarh police sent the victims to Aastha Gruha, a shelter for mentally ill women in Sundargarh town. The police sent their photographs to bordering police stations of the adjacent Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand to ascertain their identities. During the investigation, it was found that the rescued women belonged to Kharibahal village under Tumla police limits in the Jashipur district of Chhattisgarh.
During counselling, the middle-aged woman alleged that she and her daughter were repeatedly raped by her brother-in-law.
However, the family members of the woman are yet to confirm the allegation. The Sundargarh Town Police has recorded the statements of the rescued woman's sister and her another daughter.
According to the family members, the woman along with her younger daughter became mentally unstable after the death of her husband eight years back. The duo has been suffering from a mental illness for the last five years. They left home on October 4.
