Respite from heatwave! Thunderstorm alert for these Odisha districts for next 5 days

Bhubaneswar: After witnessing intense heatwave last week, people of Odisha are likely to heave a sigh of relief as thunderstorm is on the cards for several districts for next five days.

Ahead of possible cyclonic circulation that may intensify into a low pressure this week, thunderstorm may occur in most parts of the State bringing huge relief from the hot weather, forecast Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre today.

According to the regional meteorological centre, a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over South Andaman Sea and neighbourhood around May 4. Under its influence, a Low Pressure Area is likely to form over the same region around May 6. It is likely to become more marked during subsequent 24 hours.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts. Such weather condition is likely to last in Odisha till May 7.

The MeT issued yellow warning for thunderstorm for many districts including Khordha and Cuttack during next 5 days.

Upto May 3 morning: Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal and Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Angul and Dhenkanal.

May 3-4: Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sundargarh and Deogarh.

May 4-5: Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Nuapada.

May 5-6: Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Puri, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam.

May 6-7: Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
