Bhubaneswar: Severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail in a few districts of Odisha on June 1 (tomorrow), said the IMD today.

As per the IMD prediction, heatwave to severe heatwave and warm night condition are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balangir, Sambalpur, Kalahandi and Sonepur on June 1 (Saturday). An Orange warning has been issued in this regard.

Similarly, heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Boudh and Kandhamal on Saturday, said the IMD regional centre here.

Besides, hot and humid weather condition may prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati and Keonjhar tomorrow, added the IMD.

However, the IMD has predicted thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Dhenkanal on Saturday.

Moreover, light to moderate rain or thundershower may occur at a few places over the districts of South Odisha, North Interior Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of North Coastal Odisha tomorrow, said the IMD.

Notably, several districts of Odisha have been witnessing severe heatwave condition for the last few days.

At least nine places in the state recorded the maximum temperature above 45 Degree Celsius yesterday.

Jharsuguda town recorded the highest maximum temperature of 47 Degree C in the state on Friday.

At least 40 people died of suspected heatstroke in Odisha yesterday.

The IMD has also predicted respite from severe heatwave condition in Odisha after June 1.
