Restore power in Ganjam by Nov 15, CM directs Energy dept

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Friday directed the Energy department to ensure restoration of electricity to consumers in the cyclone and flood affected Ganjam district positively by November 15.

During a review meeting at the state Secretariat, the chief minister asked chief secretary JK Mohapatra to take stock of the progress of restoration work in all sectors, including power,  twice a week.

The meeting decided to provide the highest assistance to the tune of Rs 75,000 to fishermen towards each damaged boat and Rs 25,000 for each damaged or lost net.

Patnaik also asked the School and Mass Education department to relocate the schools completely damaged due to cyclone Phailin and subsequent floods with new buildings within the limits of the same revenue village.

According to sources, as many as 225 of 475 gram panchayats in Ganjam district are yet to get electricity connectivity even 29 days after cyclone Phailin hit Ganjam.
